Basic
put on 옷을 입다.
ex) Before going out for dinner, I usually put on something casual.
take off 벗다, 이륙하다.
ex) I usually take off my shoes as soon as I get home.
grow up 자라다.
ex) I grew up in a small city, so I didn’t go to the library very often.
hang out 어울리다.
ex) I like to hang out with my friends on weekends.
look after 돌보다.
ex) I often look after my little cousin when my aunt is busy.
set up 시작하다, 세우다.
ex) Many young people want to set up their own small businesses.
give up 포기하다.
ex) Even though it was difficult, I didn’t give up on learning how to cook.
work out 운동하다, 해결하다.
ex) I usually work out at the gym in my free time.
pick up 집어 들다, 태우다, 배우다.
ex) I picked up some snacks on my way home yesterday.
come across 우연히 발견하다.
ex) I came across an interesting article about climate change online.
take part in 참여하다.
ex) I took part in a sports competition when I was in high school.
look forward to ~을 기대하다.
ex) I always look forward to my summer holiday.
stay up 늦게까지 깨어 있다.
ex) I sometimes stay up late watching movies.
keep in touch 연락을 유지하다.
ex) I still keep in touch with some of my childhood friends.
carry on 계속하다.
ex) Even when I’m busy, I try to carry on with my hobbies.
bring up (주제 등을) 꺼내다, 양육하다.
ex) My parents often brought up the importance of studying hard.
turn on/off 켜다/끄다.
ex) I usually turn on the TV when I get home from work.
find out 알아내다.
ex) I found out about that website from a friend.
look back on ~을 되돌아보다.
ex) I like to look back on my school days when I see old photos.
get along with 잘 지내다.
ex) I get along well with most of my classmates.
Holidays & Travel
set off 출발하다
ex) We set off early in the morning to avoid traffic.
check in 체크인하다
ex) We checked in at the hotel around 3 p.m.
check out 체크아웃하다, 확인하다
ex) I checked out of the hotel and went straight to the airport.
get away 휴가 가다, 벗어나다
ex) I try to get away from the city every summer.
look around 둘러보다
ex) I spent the afternoon looking around the old town.
Daily Life & Home
do up 수리하다, 단장하다
ex) They did up their house last year, so it looks modern now.
tidy up 정리하다
ex) I tidied up my room before my guests arrived.
wash up 설거지하다
ex) After dinner, I usually wash up while listening to music.
put away 제자리에 두다
ex) I always put away my clothes after doing the laundry.
run out of ~이 다 떨어지다
ex) We ran out of milk, so I had to go to the shop.
